Though I'm not one to play favourites when it comes to Holidays, the Belgian tradition of celebrating Saint Nicholas Day is very close to my heart. With a straight-up focus on candy & toys, it's every kid's no. 1 Holiday, and the perfect way to prep (aka train your stomach) for X-mas. :)
So needless to say, I really wanted to make Gabriel's first Saint Nicholas holiday extra special. Since we're trying to keep his toy supply limited and rather invest in beautiful & durable pieces we got him a mammoth rocking horse (isn't it the cutest??) and some sweet nesting dolls for the baby room - pieces we can hold onto a bit longer, and that he'll hopefully grow to love. :) Candy-wise we went all the way with all the traditional Saint Nicholas treats: from Saint Nicholas-shaped speculoos biscuits, marzipan & dark chocolate to golden chocolate coins and fresh mandarins. Even though Gabriel was mostly just interested in grabbing and squeezing the mandarins (haha), it all made me so happy to finally share one of my favourite days of the year with our little one, and make it into one of those cosy family traditions.
What are your favourite Holidays to share with your family? Doesn't it make you super nostalgic? :)
