Given the flawless styling & smooth organisation, the only thing you have to worry about when you go to a Chanel show is to not sound a like a broken record. Because how can you not express the same excitement, season after season, for a House that keeps reinventing its icons? For the presentation of the Chanel SS18 collection, the iconic Grand Palais was transformed into a giant rainforest, complete with faux rocks, waterfalls, and lush greens. Because why not, right?
Waterproof was clearly the keyword for this collection, so let's just say I was quite pleased with my on theme look for the show, sporting a Freya Dalsjo trenchcoat with statement shoulders, red patent leather boots from By Malene Birger, Projekt Produkt sunnies, Rokus London scorpion ring and dark blue nails (O.P.I.'s Less Is Norse). After fuelling up with café au lait and my morning croissant (bien sûr!), we decided to skip the always horrible Parisian traffic and walk to the show - the right decision, because OMG that's a pretty Fall decor, right? :)
The fashion world's newest runway darling, Kaia Gerber, opened the show, wearing the coolest transparant over-the-knee rain boots the world has ever seen, and matching wide-rimmed rain hat plus drop-shaped statement earrings. Every single look that followed referred to the same theme - in a subtle or more, eh, transparant way: plastic ruffled rain caps (not the easiest thing to make into high fashion), matching gloves and capes, baby blue patent leather jackets. How Chanel made it look chic? Apart from an impeccable finish and carefully selected materials, the details of the pieces were to die for: transparant embellished bracelets, oversized mask sunnies, delicate ruffles & chains, and fine faux fur. Even the beauty look was rain-inspired, including aqua blue smokey eyes, wet (glossy) red lips, and sleek hair. And the A-list front row with Cindy Crawford, Monica Bellucci and Clémence Poésy, saw it was good. Buckets full of rain next Summer? Yes, please!!
Thanks so much for sending so much creativity into the world, Chanel! Can't wait for the next one :)
