No matter how lovely the arrival of the new collections is, it can also be a little overwhelming. You obviously want to buy all your favourite pieces from this year's hottest trends, but since that's just not possible ('cause other things in life than shoes, you know), it's better to make a thoughtful selection. But which pieces are best to invest in this season? In other words: which tops, bottoms, and accessories will instantly upgrade your current wardrobe, and are versatile enough to pair with just about anything? Look no further, my friends, these are the 5 things to invest in right now:
It was written in the stars that ruffled sleeves were going to be a big hit this season, and they're literally everywhere. I love the long-sleeved version, since it adds a bit of Summer to any Winter outfit (proof), but rest assure that if you rather opt for a short-sleeved variant, it'll be equally on trend all year long...
Vinyl trousers may not seem like an evident piece of clothing (we're all thinking about Ross's legendary desperate "They're not coming on, man", right?), but if you opt for a version that's lined with a soft fabric, you shouldn't have any fears. In fact, I really love how they make even the most cutesy outfit look rock-'n-roll, even when paired with an oversized parka and sneakers, or an all-black ensemble.
Lace-up shoes have been popular for a while now, but this season everything - from tops to leggings to mini-skirts and jackets - gets tied up. Whether you go for a lace-up piece with cut-outs or not, it's a bit naughty and flirty - perfect to upgrade your denim for Valentine's Day (other options right here) - and after of course!
I'm 100% smitten with over-the-top footwear, so the ruffles/golden appliqués/pompoms/tassels-thing that's going on right now is right up my alley! The best thing about mules is that they're inherently elegant (as they reveal your ankles and make your foot look super feminine), so they can actually get away with all of those additions, without ever looking like they're too much. Now, isn't that just perfection?
Although I loved my entire outfit for the Dior couture show in Paris, the all-white sunnies were my absolute favourites! If you're looking to invest in a new pair of on trend sunglasses, forget about oversized, and go with spacey/futuristic ones instead. I love the rectangular versions (they kind of remind me of the 3D glasses that were IT when I was growing up :)), but I'm equally in for the more narrow rounded options out there. A girl can never have too many sunglasses, am I right?
