If you love fashion as much as I do, from time to time you come across pieces that you fall instantly in love with, no way back. :) And that's exactly what happened when I first spotted these crushed velvet trousers: the wide-legged cut, rich golden colour, easy drawstring closure, and sultry fabric - I mean, c'mon! But I'll be the first to admit that a heavy eye-catching piece like this can seem a bit challenging to style, if you want to keep it somewhat casual & wearable. But hey, there's nothing that a simple tee can't handle, as proven by my 3 cute tricks to adopt the crushed velvet trend right now!
1 / THE CUT IS EVERYTHING
Yes, the cut really is everything. The thing with a rich heavy fabric such as crushed velvet is that you want it to behave exactly right. If it hugs your body in the wrong way it can end up looking pretty awful. A pair with a low-waisted wide-legged cut (such as this one that I picked up at Enes!) is a certain winner, because it will have that draped effect you want, barely touching the ground. O, and don't forget: pockets are strictly decorative, because crushed velvet gives away every shape that it covers, so you might want to pair this look with a slightly bigger structured bag (and seamless underwear ;)) to not have to stuff your pockets.
2 / PAIR WITH A VINTAGE TEE
Now it's time to dress this beauty down a bit! And what better way to do that than to throw in a vintage tee? Opt for one with a neutral background (off-white is perfect) and a badass print, that you casually tuck into your drawstring trousers. Again, make sure to go with a short tee to avoid the tucked-in fabric showing through your velvet trousers!
3 / LOAFERS FOR THE WIN
I can't say how many times I've worn these loafers, but they're easily one of the best purchases I've ever made. They're just the perfect casual-yet-chic footwear, and will make your velvet trousers look amazing. Of course, if the trousers would be on the longer side for you, there's nothing wrong with adding platform sneakers (but do stay clear from heels if you're looking to dress down your heavy trousers). Yay, another outfit that asks for flats! :)
Are you on board with the crushed velvet trend? I honestly love it so much! :)
